Red Door Notes
A Letter from our new Organist & Choir
Director
I would like to
take this opportunity to thank members of the Vestry, especially
Mr. Timmons and Rev. Eileen O'Reilly, for offering me the
position of Organist and Choir Director at St. Andrew's. Music
is an important part of my life and faith and I look forward to
many wonderful times making music together in the future.
Music, along with
the scripture readings, prayers and the Eucharist, is a part of
worship that provides a communal way for Christians to express
and grow in their faith and has always been a priority in the
Episcopal services. It's a gift that must be shared no matter
what level of musicianship one may personally possess. I
encourage all to raise your voices and sing our hymns
thoughtfully with lots of enthusiasm. If you are interested in
singing in the choir, please catch me during coffee hour or
contact me through email:
PuckDirect@hotmail.com
Planning worship
music, to me, is like planning well balanced meals with lots of
favorite dishes both simple and gourmet, adding new recipes
every now and then that have never been made before and always
providing a great variety of styles and flavors. In the months
and years to come, I hope to select music that we already know
and love and also learn new music that will soon become familiar
which will enable us, who choose to worship because we want to,
not because we must, to worship in significant and relevant
ways. Thanks for this great opportunity. I look forward to
meeting more and more of you in the coming weeks.
Warmly. David
Puckett

God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for wisdom and
God gave me problems to solve.
I asked for prosperity and
God gave me brawn and brains to work.
I asked for courage and
God gave me dangers to overcome.
I asked for patience and
God placed me in situations where I was forced to wait.
I asked for love and
God gave me troubled people to help.

Stay in Touch

Lighter Side
While walking along the sidewalk
in front of his church,
a minister overheard the intoning of a prayer that
nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and
his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper
burial should be performed, they had secured
a small box and cotton
batting, then dug a
hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased. The
minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and
with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he
thought his father always said: "Glory be
unto the Faaather, and unto the Sonnn,
and into the hole he goooes. "
