From Frances Tye: More than 90 ladies from throughout Fayette County attended our ECW sponsored Prayer Luncheon on Monday, May 1st. Our group offered to host this event as a prelude to other community-wide services on the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 4th. Ladies of many different ages, churches and walks of life were in attendance. We were especially pleased to have the residents of several nursing homes and an assisted living facility join us for the service and luncheon. Guests were greeted by Mary Link and Michelle Staffan. The prayer service was led by our layreaders Sharon Mavis, Claudia Coe and Sue Timmons, with music provided by Phillip Weller. Following the service, Vicki Staffan invited our guests to Story Hall for a luncheon prepared by Shirley Morrow, Mary Burbage, Liz Rea, Tina Rawlins and Dixie Graham. The drinks and dessert table was hosted by Pauline Foster. Tables were decorated by Beth Cuff with a spring theme of miniature churches and lilacs. Guests were encouraged to take the bookmarks and prayer cards at each place setting as reminders of the day and of the May 4th community services at the court house gazebo and First Church of God. Frances Tye served as coordinator for the event. "Many ladies expressed their hope that the Ladies Prayer Luncheon would become an annual event," said a spokesperson for the local National Day of Prayer Task Force. Our ECW group found it to be a most rewarding experience.
National Day of Prayer The ECW plans to take an active role in preparing for the National Day of Prayer in May 2006. Planning begins in January. Please see Sue Timmons or Frances Tye if you would like to be involved with others in planning for this community wide event.
Mark Your 2006 Calendar!! A luncheon celebration sponsored by the ECW will be held at noon. The celebration will follow the morning service featuring a pageant to celebrate the season put on by the young people of our church. Bishop Price will be with us. We hope our entire church family can join us for this joyous occasion. Please sign up on the bulletin board in Story Hall. Jane Stout, Beth Cuff and Mary Link are chairing this event for ECW. Habitat Shower a Huge Success! The ECW sponsored shower for our newest Habitat for Humanity family was held in Story Hall on November 14th. Twenty members and guests were present for lunch followed by the pleasure of watching our newest Habitat homeowner open a wide variety of new items for her kitchen, baths and garden. The event was a continuation of ECW's theme for the near, "Women Supporting Women to Live in the Light". Peanut Brittle-The Last Word'. Many thanks to 35 cooks and baggers plus all the salespersons and those who donated sugar and peanuts to make our Peanut Brittle Project-2005, such a huge success again this year. A record-breaking 665 pounds were made and, more importantly, many new and lasting friendships established as we worked together for a common goal. Profits from the project have been designated by ECW as a "starter fund" for new carpet for Story Hall, Sunday School and office areas of the parish hall and a new vacuum cleaner. Any salespersons who have money to turn in, please do so as soon as possible as we want to close the books on this project by the end of 2005. ***************************************** ECW Gatherings to Begin September 12th Our first gathering of the women of St. Andrew's will be our annual sharing of hors d'oeuvres and plans for the coming year of service to our church and our community.
